Discover is a startup that connects job seekers with tailored job opportunities using the DISC personality model. After taking a quiz to identify their dominant personality traits, users receive job listings that are filtered to match their profiles. This method boosts job satisfaction and helps companies find candidates who are a good fit for their culture.
The Challenge
Developing the Discover website involved tackling several important challenges. Key aspects considered included:
- Managing Time and Complexity: With a 10-week timeline, the focus was on delivering essential features while keeping the design straightforward.
- Technical Feasibility: Ensuring the project remained within the developers' technical skill set to guarantee smooth implementation.
- Staying Aligned with the Core Goal: To create a successful product, it was important to remain focused on the main purpose—connecting job seekers with DISC-based job matches—without adding unnecessary features.
Research
The research and discovery phase of the project included interviews with potential users to understand their job search experiences and preferences for a personality-based job matching platform. Key findings from these interviews are:
- Many users are satisfied with their current roles but find it challenging to locate vacancies that match their personality.
- Users prefer shorter, straightforward personality tests and want clear insights into companies before applying.
- Important filters include job level, education, industry, location, and language.
- Addressing skepticism about test accuracy and offering segmented tests could improve user engagement.
These insights will inform the development of Discover's user-focused job matching platform.
Project Objectives
The main objectives of the project were to:
- Match job seekers to roles based on their dominant personality traits using the DISC model.
- Improve job satisfaction and retention by aligning individuals with positions that fit their personalities.
- Simplify the job search by offering relevant, prioritized vacancies.
-
Design an easy-to-use DISC quiz that provides clear insights into companies before applying.
Wireframing
The wireframing process for the Discover platform was a structured and iterative journey aimed at creating an intuitive, user-centric job matching website based on the DISC model. Key steps in the process included:
- User-Centered Design: The process began by researching user needs and creating personas to guide the design. The wireframes were focused on enhancing the job search experience for young professionals.
- Low-Fidelity Wireframes: Early ideas were translated into low-fidelity wireframes using tools like Figma, establishing the layout, structure, and content flow of the website.
- Iterative Feedback: Feedback from stakeholders and potential users played a crucial role in refining the wireframes, ensuring the design met usability standards and effectively addressed user needs.
The Result
Key features implemented include:
- An engaging DISC test with clear, personalized results.
- A user-friendly home page featuring quick filters and highlighted vacancies.
- Account management with DISC insights and activity tracking.
- Detailed job and company pages with contact options and employee reviews.
- Efficient company discovery through advanced filtering options.
Through strong collaboration and clear communication with the client, Discover's DISC-based job matching platform was successfully developed. It now provides personalized job recommendations, valuable company insights, and a more streamlined job search experience. The platform empowers young professionals to find careers that align with their personality and goals, transforming the job-seeking process.
Key Learnings
- Improved and Realistic Planning: The project emphasized the value of setting clear and achievable milestones. This approach helped maintain focus and efficiency throughout the development process.
- Challenges with Unclear Requirements: A major challenge arose from working with a client who lacked well-defined project requirements. This highlighted the need for thorough communication and ongoing clarification to ensure alignment of expectations.
